Where to check for product recalls
Register your baby products when you buy them — most manufacturers send recall notices directly to registered owners. Also check these sources regularly:
- Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS): gov.uk/product-safety-alerts
- Which? Product Recalls: which.co.uk/news/product-recalls
- Manufacturer websites: Check directly for any product you own
Most commonly recalled baby product categories
- Car seats and travel systems — check straps, buckles, and expiry dates. Car seats have a lifespan — usually 6–10 years.
- Baby carriers and slings — positioning risks can cause positional asphyxiation. Always use TICKS guidelines.
- Cots and sleep products — mattress firmness standards, bar spacing (no more than 45–65mm), and drop-side safety.
- Baby monitors — electrical safety and fire risk.
- Teething products — choking hazards and toxicity from certain gels.
⚠️
Buying second-hand?
Always check the product recall database before using any second-hand car seat, cot, or major baby item. Car seats should never be used second-hand unless you know the full history — including whether it has been in any collision, however minor.
Sling safety — TICKS
When using a sling or carrier, remember TICKS: Tight, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss, Keep chin off chest, Supported back. If in doubt, contact a certified sling library consultant before use.
