Aveeno Baby Dermexa Emollient Cream
Aveeno · Baby Skincare
Skincare 🔍 Independent Review
✅ Safe
Overall Assessment

A well-formulated emollient suitable for babies with dry or eczema-prone skin. Fragrance-free formulation aligns with NHS and NICE guidelines for eczema management (NICE NG190). Contains colloidal oat extract, which has a good evidence base for barrier support in atopic skin.

Key Ingredients
✓ Colloidal Oat Extract ✓ Glycerin ✓ Dimethicone — Petrolatum ✓ Fragrance-Free
NHS/NICE Alignment

NICE NG190 recommends unperfumed emollients as first-line treatment for eczema in children. This product meets those criteria. Suitable from birth — no age restriction concerns identified.

Vitabiotics · Infant Supplements
Supplement 📋 Commissioned Review
✅ Safe
📋 Commissioned disclosure: This review was commissioned by Vitabiotics. All findings and assessments are independently determined by Baby Safety Lab Ltd. No finding has been altered at the request of the brand.
Overall Assessment

Provides 400 IU (10mcg) Vitamin D3 per dose — exactly the amount recommended by NHS England and NICE for all babies from birth to 1 year who are breastfed, or formula-fed on less than 500ml/day. Dosing format (liquid drops) is appropriate for infants. No unnecessary additives identified.

Key Ingredients
✓ Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) ✓ Sunflower Oil — Natural orange flavour
NHS/NICE Alignment

Aligns with NHS recommendation of 400 IU Vitamin D daily for all babies. No safety concerns identified at recommended dose. Dose should not be exceeded without GP guidance — Vitamin D toxicity, while rare, is possible with chronic overdose.

WaterWipes Original Baby Wipes
WaterWipes · Baby Hygiene
Hygiene 🔍 Independent Review
✅ Safe
Overall Assessment

One of the most minimal wipe formulations available. 99.9% water with a small amount of fruit extract (grapefruit) as a preservative. NHS recommends plain water for cleaning newborns — this product is essentially that in convenient form. No fragrance, no alcohol, no SLS.

Key Ingredients
✓ Water (99.9%) ✓ Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Extract ✓ Fragrance-Free ✓ No Alcohol ✓ No SLS/SLES
NHS/NICE Alignment

NICE PH56 and NHS newborn care guidance recommend plain warm water for nappy changes in the first weeks. This product is as close as a commercial wipe gets to that recommendation. Appropriate from birth.

95 / 100
Generic Baby Rice (4+ months)
Category Review · Baby First Foods
Baby Food 🔍 Independent Review
⚠️ Use With Caution
Overall Assessment

Baby rice products labelled "4 months+" create confusion. NHS guidance recommends solid foods from around 6 months — not 4 months. Starting solids before 6 months is not recommended unless a GP or health visitor advises otherwise. The "4+" labelling on many products predates current UK guidance and should not be followed.

Key Concern

Some baby rice products have also been found to contain inorganic arsenic at low levels (FSA 2016 report). While levels are within legal limits, the FSA advises that baby rice should not be the sole weaning food. A varied diet of vegetables, fruits, and soft foods is preferred per NHS guidance.

NHS/NICE Alignment

NHS Start4Life weaning guidance and NICE PH11 both recommend starting at around 6 months. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises variety and not relying solely on baby rice. This review reflects current 2026 NHS guidance.
